Jaune Quick-to-See Smith (1940-2025) was a leading contemporary Native American artist whose works powerfully addressed Native identity, environmentalism, and colonial history through vibrant, mixed-media narratives. The first Native American artist honored with a major retrospective at the Whitney Museum ("Memory Map," 2023), Smith’s artistic advocacy profoundly influenced contemporary discourse. Her works are featured in major museums, including MoMA, the Whitney Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Smithsonian American Art Museum, and the National Museum of the American Indian.
