Description
Painted in 1972, Day Window (Red Curtain) is Dodd at her best. The trompe l'oeil scrunch of the curtain fabric gives way to a natural drape of red and creamy white paint, framing a loosely painted landscape in the distance. A vivid example of Dodd's ability to move between fast and slow looking, exacting observation and loose brushwork, the painting was included in Lois Dodd: Framing the Ephemeral, her first European retrospective, at Kunstmuseum Den Haag, and is illustrated full-page in the exhibition catalogue on p. 115.
